Pierre to the Earthwood!

Pierre the Voyageur has a new home at the Earthwood Inn, Bar and Grill! The sale of Pierre to the Earthwood insures he will remain a part of Two Harbors while moving to a site where he will welcome every vehicle entering the town via Highway 61. According to Earthwood manager Paul Belsito, keeping Pierre here was an important factor in purchasing the large statue that has graced Seventh Avenue for more than 50 years. “This was a large financial commitment on the part of our new owners, but they feel very strongly about Pierre remaining in Two Harbors.”
The Voyageur will move to his new home shortly, where a campaign, called “Prepare Pierre”, will begin the process of refurbishing him to his former glory. It is the intent of the Earthwood to restore Pierre to his original operation, which involves his head turning, his eyes lighting up, and of course his speaking to visitors. In addition, Pierre will receive a new set of clothes via a fresh paint job!
The cost of moving and restoring Pierre will be greater than the purchase price. The Earthwood will attempt to raise money for these tasks through events and food specials. The first special will start after Pierre arrives. As part of the Prepare Pierre project, The Earthwood will have a delicious homemade soup on the menu with one dollar from every bowl going toward the cost of transporting and standing up the mighty Voyageur. “We hope that the community is as excited as we are about keeping Pierre here,” Belsito said. “Every resident that wishes to support this cause can do so while enjoying a bowl of soup, and every dollar does help to offset these tremendous costs.” Perhaps in future years, the sight of Pierre will signal a welcome home for residents and a greeting for weary travelers looking for a place to stop for the night. It certainly means that the history of Pierre will be inter-twined with Two Harbors for many years to come, and that is something we can all celebrate.
